Arlene L. Weiss, MS, DABT

Since 1986, Arlene L. Weiss has been president and principal scientist for PharmTox, Inc., a consulting firm specializing in toxicology, epidemiology, and pharmacology. Her firm is affiliated with Environmental Medicine, Inc. She is a certified toxicologist being a Diplomate of the American Board of Toxicology (qualified by examination in 1995). She is a Board Certified Forensic Examiner with a specialty in medical record review and analysis in toxicology and a  Member of the American College of Forensic Examiners. Ms. Weiss received her Masters Degree in Environmental Health Sciences (Epidemiology) from New York University in 1990. Her Master's thesis was developed and written on the toxicology and epidemiology of trichloroethylene, a degreasing agent often found in groundwater contamination sites. She has been an Invited Guest Lecturer for the Graduate Toxicology course at New York University, Washington Square, during the past 3 years and has lectured to nursing students at Ramapo College in Mahwah, NJ for the past 2 years.

Ms. Weiss has researched the published literature for specific compounds and toxicants. She has formulated risk assessment opinions with respect to adverse health effects and target organ toxicity for a variety of private clients. Her experience in toxicology has focused on hazard assessment, risk interpretation and safety evaluation. For specific clients, a risk assessment is
performed for specific sites under specific conditions of use/exposure given specific toxicants and exposure scenarios. In association with Environmental Medicine Inc., we have performed several risk assessments under the State of California Proposition 65 with regard to consumer product labeling issues.

Ms. Weiss has extensive experience with a number of specific chemicals as well as groups of chemicals including asbestos, graphite and man-made fibers, plastics monomers (vinyls, acrylates, styrene, plasticizers, isocyanates, etc.), solvents (benzene, toluene, xylene), halogenated dioxins and dibenzofurans (resource recovery, solid waste incineration, wood preservation, and secondary smelting), polychlorinated biphenyls and polyhalogenated aromatic hydrocarbons, metals (lead, arsenic, cadmium, and chromium), and chemicals involved in dry cleaning and degreasing processes (including perchloroethylene, trichloroethylene, methyl chloroform, and methylene chloride).
